Using polygenic scores to guide betablocker therapy for heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (UPBEAT).

Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem that displays wide variation in progression and response to therapy. UPBEAT is a clinical trial pilot study that will use polygenic scores, a tool which describes differences in genetics, to examine effectiveness of beta blocker medication, a cornerstone of heart failure therapy. Participation requires 8 in-person visits, and randomized assignment to beta-blocker versus placebo medication.

Sex: Male or Female
Age: 18 years and over
Healthy Volunteers:
This study is NOT accepting healthy volunteers
Inclusion Criteria:
Age 18- 90 years old; Ejection fraction from heart imaging study (EF) of 41-50%; Diagnosis of Heart Failure in hospital, emergency room visit, or through blood work; Expected ability to fully participate in study (can tolerate study processes, no long travel)
Exclusion Criteria:
Specific heart imaging results; Currently on beta blocker heart medication at a higher dose; Not able to take certain heart medications; Unable to complete study activities; Too high or too low heart rate and blood pressure.
